Discipleship includes 5 dynamic life expressions that United Methodist Christians do that reflect who we are as a people who believe in Jesus: Prayers. Presence. Gifts. Service. Witness. Today's focus: Service
With Thanksgiving a week from today, I'm thinking about the turkey. Diana, Lauren and I look forward to sharing the feast. With Wesley, home from college, and Diana's mom, visiting for the holiday, we are planning the meals to be special family times.
In this season of gratitude, I'm also thinking about people for whom I'm thankful, persons who provide a service that eases, enhances my life. You have some in your life, too. So, between now and Thanksgiving, let's share this space to share stories about who they are, and what they do that causes us to thankfully think of them.
Each day, I'll post a "Thankfully thinking of ________" story. Post your's as a comment.
Thankfully thinking of
I'm thankful for the staff of the Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District. I live in this "MUD," and I'm thankful for the men and women whose work ensures that my home has water, and that waste water is appropriately processed. I appreciate their efforts that help to keep my neighborhood attractive and enjoyable for its residents and guests.
Service as discipleship
St. Philip's Members (and, committed Guests) will have the opportunity in December to select a Ministry Team on which to serve for the following four (4) months. We living our 2012 Church Goal of "UPS" - utilizing persons serving - to help each Member live the discipleship expression of Service.
Our goal (and expectation) is that each Member will faithfully participate in one of the ministries of St. Philip's, affirming that every member is minister.

Today I am thankfull thinking of...the first "bell ringer" of the season I saw this morning. Each year they are out there ringing their bells so you'll put a handful of change into their bucket. But that's not all they do. The sound of those magical bells brings back memories of Christmas past. Oh, I love it when the bell ringers show up. I love their smiles. I love the way they sing carols so far off key that even I can join in and pretend we are in perfect pitch. The bells remind me of the caring, sharing and joy of the Christmas season. Listen to them. The sound of that single bell lifts your spirits and refreshes your soul. Oh, I love it when the bell ringers show up.
Francene, your post reminds me to be sure to carry some change with me every day to add to the buckets. Thanks!
